You type a wish.
AI cuts your words into little pieces called tokens.
Each token becomes a ball. Balls are words . Gold diamonds are coins .
This brain is free. Out comes an answer, one token at a time.If its answer looks old, it checks the internet.

For grown-ups

Text becomes tokens. One Discord bot offers hundreds of models in 10 kinds. /chat decides when to search the web, re-asks with search if an answer looks out of date, and falls back to another free model if one fails.

Tokens are how the AI thinks. Credits are what you pay. ALMA turns each kind of job into a fair price, and shows it before it runs.

Pick a maker. Every maker has models with their own price.
Chat on a free model. Your words become new tokens. It costs 0 credits.
A picture: a new wish, so new tokens. The default model costs 5 credits. Free credits go first.
A little movie: new tokens again, a different maker. The cheapest clip starts at 20 credits.

For grown-ups

Tokens are the pieces a model reads and writes; every request makes its own and nothing is stored between requests. Credits are ALMA's price: shown before you press Generate, free credits a day are spent before paid ones, and a run that fails is refunded. Prices here are from ALMA's public guides (/guide/chat, /guide/image, /guide/video, /guide/music, /guide/speech, /guide/story-book, /docs/build).

Little helpers check the work.

A finished result you just don't like isn't refunded, but you can redraw a page for 5.

For grown-ups

A planner writes the script, and you edit it page by page before anything is drawn. Behind the scenes*: two drafts are judged by a decision model; every page must have something to draw and the same hero; pages are drawn three at a time; each page is checked against the character sheet and redrawn once with a note; credits are held in one atomic step and a refund can never happen twice.

Things I consider so apps don't fall over.

Three kinds of engineering I do: software, agentic and blockchain. Here are the ideas I weigh in each, so apps stay fast, safe and reliable.

Scale

Worker threadsGive each busy job its own thread, so one slow job does not hold up the rest.
Caching with a timerKeep a copy close by and refresh it after a set time, so pages load fast.
Streaming (SSE)Send progress as it happens instead of making people wait.
Database indexesA table of contents for the data, so lookups stay fast.

Reliability

RetriesIf something is not ready yet, wait and try again a few times.
Idempotency keysSend the same request twice and it still only happens once.
Held credits and refundsSet the cost aside first, and give it back if the job fails.
Health checks and auto-restartAn app reports that it is fine, and restarts if it is not.
BackupsKeep a copy of the data, ready to bring back.

TransactionsSeveral changes land together, or none of them do.
